Problem with Combine functionality
« on: November 17, 2011, 03:19:37 AM »

Hi

We are experiencing a large problem with the Combine functionality, which Human Concepts appear to be aware of but don't think it's a true fault.  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

The issue is that if you use the Combine functionality to show 2 people in 1 position (i.e in 1 box), if that position has subordinates, you cannot subchart them.  This means that all subordinates of that position show at the top level of the report thus making the report massive and unreadable.

We use Oracle as our data source and this is causing us an issue in 2 ways.

1.  We have legitimate job-share positions with subordinates.  Obviously we would expect job shares to show in 1 box rather than 2 seperate boxes as within Oracle they share 1 unique position.

2.  We have people covering positions for various reasons (Maternity Leave for example) which has subordinates to it.  As with Oracle best practise, for this in Oracle we use the standard functionality of 'Overlap' to allow us to hold 2 people against a single position.  Again in these circumstances, I would have thought that standard HR charting would allow us to show the 2 people within 1 position box along with the status (e.g 1 showing as 'On Maternity Leave' and 1 showing as 'Acting Up').

Can anyone help us out with these issues as at the moment the product is virtually unusable for us.

Thanks

Martin
