Departmental Charts
« on: January 08, 2008, 11:53:28 AM »

I have one large comprehensive organization chart which is refreshed frequently from a HR system.  This large organization has sub-charts for each Department.  I want to get able to extract each Department's sub-chart and use it without having the top person of the Organization on the chart.  I also want to be able to refresh these sub-charts when I refresh the comprehensive chart.  The sub-charts are to be used by each Division department and I don;t want to maintain 6 difference charts.

Thank you for contacting the OrgPlus Support Team.

There is a way to make this happen. You can create seperate Tabbed charts in the original chart which will record the same changes when you do a data refresh. To do this please follow the steps below.

1. Open your original chart.
2. At the bottom of the window you should see a Tab that says Chart 1. Right click on this tab and select New Chart. A window will open.
3. In the window that open select "Do not share, maintain unique heirarchy in this chart." and then select Entire Chart from the Create From section. Click OK.
4. You will now see a duplicate of you original chart, and a new tab at the bottom which says Chart 2.
5. You can now delete any of the boxes you don't want from this new chart so that it will only show a small portion of the organization.

Hi Ben,

After seeing your response to this post, I have a follow-up question for you.  I currently use 6.0 and separate our organization by Region using the method you stated below.  The only problem I have with this is when I go to update the org charts every month, When I create a new import file and try to refresh, it gives me empty boxes and lots of orphan employees, even though the newly imported data has them reporting to someone.  I don

Thank you for contacting the OrgPlus Support Team.

Usually when orphans appear after importing from a file there is an error in the ReportsTo column. The data in the ReportsTo column for an employee must match exactly what is in their managers information. Even extra spaces or punctuation can cause orphans. An example would be if the reporting structure is done by name. If the managers name appears as John Q. Doe, but their subordinate's ReportsTo column says John Q Doe that subordinate will be orphaned because the period is missing from the middle name.
