Retaining manual updates to imported chart
« on: May 27, 2005, 09:20:56 AM »

I'm generating a chart from a SQL Server database. The department has several consultants that aren't on the database that have to appear on the chart. I added them to the chart manually, but when I do a Data Refresh it drops them.

Is there any way to keep manually entered consultants on the chart during a Data Refresh?

rschaeferhig,

Thank you for contacting the OrgPlus Support Team.

There is currently no way to keep the boxes you want in the chart. This is the logic that happens with your boxes: OrgPlus starts to refresh -> It looks at the Database -> OrgPlus does not see the entries for this boxes in the Database -> It thinks the entries have been removed from the Database, thus it removes the boxes from the chart to reflect the removed entries in the Database.

Hi,

You probably already know this but just in case...  We use the drawing objects (rectangle etc.) to show these types of positions.  Not as good as an organizational object but it works well enough and stays after a refresh.

The problem is that a couple of these people actually have people reporting to them so I need to have a subchart with a subchart link. I don't think you can do that off a drawing object. Plus they don't get included in a TOC or Index.

I guess I'll need to come up with a way to maintain enough data on these folks in a spreadsheet or something that I can merge into the data extract so they show up on the chart.

You could create another table for your consultants and merge the data in your .sql file, that would make your resulting dataset include both employees and consultants before the import into Org Plus.
