I have imported an excel file and merged some fields when I was importing.

The only way to do that would be to move all the data from that column in your excel file to somewhere else.  So you would make all your data in field "D" blank.  If you want the data back in the chart later on (not merged) you can create a new column in your spreadsheet with the same name only one letter caps (example: It was Email and your new column name would be email).  This way you can create a new field in Define Fields and link it to that column (email).
